Howdy,
Here is your weekly dose of The Creator Stream, where we learn to craft irresistible video ideas and supercharge your titles & thumbnails!
Most YouTubers chase views. The best YouTubers build brands.
Think about MrBeast, Marques Brownlee, or Ali Abdaal.
They don’t just get clicks, they own a category.
Doing this will result in everything you want as a top YouTuber:
If people don’t remember why they should watch you - they won’t.
If you don’t control your brand, the audience will decide for you.
And trust me, their default answer is forgettable.
Most YouTubers think their brand = their videos.
Wrong.
Your brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room.
It’s the gut feeling your audience has before they even click.
Not to get all Jigsaw from SAW on you, but 'let's play a game...'
If I say “YouTuber who gives away millions,” you already know who.
If I say “tech reviews with insane production quality,” same deal.
If I say “the doctor who talks about productivity,” again, you know who I'm talking about!
That’s branding.
It’s not just a logo, editing style or a color scheme.
Even though those things can definetly help - Simon Squibb owns the yellow colour for example!

It’s just about being unskippable in your viewer’s mind.
The biggest mistake YouTubers make no matter their size is trying to be everything to everyone.
You don’t start as a generalist. You earn it.
Think of branding like a T-shape:
Take Ali Abdaal for example, he started helping medical students, now, people trust him on everything.
Ali didn’t jump straight into general self-improvement. He earned the right to make any video he wanted by expanding his niche step-by-step:
1️⃣ Videos for medical students at Cambridge → Highly specific, but instantly valuable to that group.
2️⃣ Broader medical student advice → Bigger audience, same core expertise.
3️⃣ Study techniques for all students → No longer just for med students.
4️⃣ Productivity for students → Expanding into a new but related niche.
5️⃣ Productivity for everyone → His content now works for non-students.
6️⃣ Business productivity & making money online → More authority, bigger impact.
7️⃣ General life advice/improvement → At this point, people trust him, not just his niche.

And here’s the real kicker: he can now make a video on anything, and it still gets millions of views.
Like the skincare video we worked on together, a topic he’s not even an expert in yet it pulled 8M+ views (and counting) because people trust his brand. If you want to read how I helped him create this video you can read it here.
Anyways, that’s the goal.
When people trust you more than the topic itself, your brand is unstoppable.
So, what’s your vertical line?
The one thing that makes your channel an instant yes for a specific audience?
Nail that. Then, expand.
Ever noticed why Netflix pushes series over standalone movies?
Simple. Familiarity wins.
YouTubers think they need to reinvent the wheel every time.
Nope. You need a repeatable format.
The more familiar your videos feel, the less friction there is to clicking.
Consistency = Trust.
Trust = More views, more clicks, more opportunities.
A brand on YouTube doesn’t explode overnight. It compounds.
Here’s how the flywheel works:
1️⃣ Be ruthlessly consistent (same style, same style hooks, same vibe).
2️⃣ Reinforce what you’re known for in every video.
3️⃣ Use collaborations to attach your brand to bigger names - again, Simon Squibb is great at this.
4️⃣ Make content that’s easily bingeable.
The best channels don’t just get one viral hit.
They create an entire ecosystem that keeps people coming back.
I've spoken at length about the GrowVeg channel that I've helped to do that here and here.
Momentum is your best friend.
Okay, for this week do the following:
1️⃣ Define your vertical line. What’s the one thing you want to be known for?
2️⃣ Audit your channel: do your videos look, feel, and sound consistent?
3️⃣ Create a repeatable format: something your audience expects and recognizes.
Have a great weekend! 👋

Meet the King of YouTube Explainer Videos — Johnny Harris - In this episode, David Perell sits down with YouTube storytelling master Johnny Harris to discover how he creates his videos.
Johnny Harris has proven he can make pretty much anything go viral, from breakfast and lottery tickets to bread-making and extra virgin olive oil. They look at his entire creative process, breaking down exactly what makes his storytelling so addicting to watch.
They cover the complete workflow: writing, drafting, editing, visual composition, and sound design. Highly recommend!

80k Subs in 1 Month - I’m covering this in next week’s newsletter because this creator’s growth has been incredible. In the past month, he’s gained 80K subscribers and had a breakout video surpass 1.5M views - all on a brand-new channel.
It’s proof that growth on YouTube isn’t about how many videos you can upload; it’s about what you make. If you know what you’re doing, success can happen fast.
I’ll break down exactly how he did it next week.

Things In My Life You Don't See - This is a pretty fun vlog from KSI that was shot during the Sidemen Charity football game with some of the biggest creators on the internet.
I got invited by the Sidemen team along with some other strategists and it was a fantastic day. Shout out to Tim Haubeil!
